Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)

Tampa CRA is a public entity established under the guidelines of the Community Redevelopment Act (Chapter 163, Part III, Florida Statutes) to implement community redevelopment activities within designated Community Redevelopment Areas or districts. Tampa’s Community Redevelopment Area is made of 8 districts, which include Central Park, Channel District, Downtown, Drew Park, East Tampa, Tampa Heights Riverfront, West Tampa, and Ybor City. Members of the Tampa City Council serve as the Community Redevelopment Agency board and work closely with City staff to manage projects, programs, and redevelopment funding. The Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency board along with their community work together to improve the quality of life within these areas or districts.

WHAT IS A CRA?

A Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) is funded by tax increment financing (TIF) and established by local government for the purpose of carrying out redevelopment activities that include reducing or eliminating slum and blight, improving the tax base, and encouraging public and private investments in the redevelopment area.

The Ybor City Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) office supports and guides redevelopment activities that enhance a vibrant urban village of residents, businesses, and visitors who live, work and play in Ybor City. We facilitate the development, redevelopment, and economic revitalization of the Ybor City Historic District- a unique urban community melding beautiful historic architecture, a celebrated multi-cultural heritage, a bustling main street, creative businesses, and revitalized neighborhoods in Tampa Bay.

ORIGIN: 

On June 2, 1988, Tampa City Council declared Ybor City a blighted area per Florida Statues Chapter 163 that established the Ybor City Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) 1. On May 17, 2004, Ybor City CRA 2 was established. The Ybor City CRA serves as the community’s liaison for economic development and helps guide redevelopment activities and projects.
