Tampa, Fla. (August 26, 2022) –The Ybor City Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is thrilled to announce the second heART of Ybor Community Art Contest in which artists submit one interpretation of what Ybor City means to them and their life in Tampa.

Ybor City Development Manager Courtney Orr said, “We were so humbled to receive such high engagement last year when we introduced this contest. Seeing everyone’s creativity and love for Ybor City during last year’s contest was terrific. With art and culture having an incredible presence in Ybor, we are excited to foster art through this contest.”

The arts are making a rapid comeback in the historic district, so it is ideal timing for the second rendition of this contest. New art spaces will be introduced into the community soon through the renovation of an Ybor warehouse into Meatyard Ybor. It will bring 50+ new art workspaces and a gallery.

Ybor City Developer Darryl Shaw said, “Meatyard Ybor is an exciting addition to the arts community; it’s an affordable artist work studio. As Ybor develops, we do not want it to become homogenous; we want to preserve the rich history both architecturally and culturally. The importance of art in the community is to create diversity and uniqueness, and we are so excited for the artists in the community to share this asset.”

Applicants can apply within a diverse choice of mixed mediums from traditional painting and drawing to digital art and performance with an out-of-the-box category. The CAC also will award two CAC Community Choice awards.

There is no cost to participate, and all submissions are accepted online through Ybor City CRA’s website starting today, August 26, 2022, through Friday, November 4, 2022. Category winners for first, second, third place and two CAC Choice Award winners will be announced in late November and will receive gift cards to Ybor City businesses, media exposure, featured social media posts, and highlighted on the Ybor City CRA’s website.
